Commissioned by: ZAP and the City of Zwolle. A contribution to: Architectural Biennale 2014 Zwolle. Scope: Various primary and secondary schools in Zwolle . Location expo: Zwolle centre
Wasted City was developed in a collaboration with Chantal de Wolde. The ZAP and the municipality of Zwolle asked us to contribute to the 1st edition of the Zwolse Architectuur Biënnale 2014. This contribution took the form of an educational project focusing on architecture, sustainability, changing climate and (co)creation. It consisted of a series of workshops at primary and secondary schools and an exhibition of the concepts conceived and created.
Pupils from elementary schools and and students The (fantasy) city of the future that the students build is made of waste and anticipates technological developments(Smart Cities), climate change (water management and sustainable energy sources). Big themes that are effortlessly molded by the pupils and students into the most innovative and surprising ideas. Feasibility and realism are not a design requirement. So the wildest concepts come to life.
For the 2014 Architecture Biennale, we were asked by the municipality of Zwolle, and the ZAP (Zwols Architectuur Podium) to hold a series of workshops at primary and secondary schools and then to exhibit the results during the biennale and compile them into a book which would serve as a basis for new thinking about the Zwolle of the future from the perspective of the future adult. The useful ideas might one day be given a place in an urban development plan for the future Z
