Yellow Line approaching Salah al-Din with all consequences

What is a Yellow Line?
The “Yellow Line” refers to a de facto military demarcation and buffer zone that divides the Gaza Strip, established under the US-brokered ceasefire agreement.
Key details of the Yellow Line:
- The Division: It splits Gaza into two distinct areas. The eastern portion, comprising roughly 53% to 58% of the territory (including most of Gaza’s historical agricultural land), is under direct Israeli military control. The western portion serves as the zone where Palestinians have been forced to shelter.
- Physical Demarcation: The line is physically indicated in many places by yellow-painted concrete blocks.
- Deadly “Free-Fire” Zone: The Israeli military maintains a “shoot-on-sight” policy for anyone approaching or crossing the line into the eastern zone, making the immediate vicinity a dangerous combat area.
- Shifting Boundaries: While initially meant as a temporary truce line, satellite tracking and UN reports have repeatedly documented Israeli forces moving the yellow blocks deeper into the Gaza Strip, expanding the military-controlled zone and displacing more Palestinians.
- Humanitarian Impact: The establishment and expansion of the Yellow Line have severely restricted aid access and forced the vast majority of Gaza’s population into overcrowded, western coastal encampments.
