GAZA DIARIES 01 – WEDNESDAY – OCTOBER 7 2026 – BY FERAS ABO KMAIL
Three years have passed since the beginning of this war, yet sometimes I feel as if the days have not moved forward at all, as though we are still trapped in the first day.
Today is Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
I woke up to a day that feels like so many of the days we have lived through during these past three years. Bombing, the sounds of aircraft and explosions, and the fear that has become part of our everyday lives. The sound of an explosion is no longer unfamiliar to us, but no matter how much we get used to it, it never becomes normal.
In Gaza, death is still present everywhere. We hear about people being killed, families losing loved ones, and people being injured or losing their homes. Every new piece of news reminds us that, for us, the war has not truly ended.
Even the simplest things have become difficult. Prices are extremely high, and food and basic necessities have become a heavy burden for families. Things that could once be bought easily now require careful calculations, and sometimes we have to choose between basic necessities because we cannot afford them all.
Three years of war have changed the meaning of the words “an ordinary day.”
An ordinary day in Gaza means waking up and wondering: Will this day pass safely? Will my family members come home? Will we have enough food? And will there be another explosion before the day ends?
I am not writing this only to talk about numbers. Numbers matter, but behind every number there is a person, a family, and a story.
This is Gaza through my eyes on October 7, 2026.
And this is only one day of our lives.
