The Abyss 2026
Acryl on canvas
180 x 100 cm
Part of the Sublime Comedy series

The Abyss provides an ambiguous backdrop for what we perceive as the highest and lowest stages of civilisation. In this scenario, they intersect. We see glimpses of a museum-like setting (inspired by the Tate Modern) serving as a façade in which real and inescapable life imposes itself upon you.
A running man carries a young girl like a modern, melancholic Pietà
In their utter powerlessness, these images beg to be seen. They feel so urgently invisible and obliterable that they soon invade our world and consciousness everywhere and indelibly.
Morality as a waterbed with a deadly ambiguity.

This painting is inspired and dedicated to the victims of Gaza and the West Bank
